    La storia

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the oldest salt mines in the world still in operation, with over 700 years of history. Founded in the 13th century, it produced table salt continuously from the Middle Ages until 2007. Over the centuries, miners carved a fascinating underground labyrinth of chambers, chapels and salt lakes, decorating the spaces with sculptures and bas-reliefs in salt. The Chapel of St. Kinga, entirely carved in salt at 101 meters depth, is the mine's crown jewel. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1978.
